ENERGY STAR®

ENERGY STAR® qualified windows and doors are tested and rated by an independent, accredited agency. Products qualify for ENERGY STAR® based on their air tightness, U-value and Energy Rating. Ecoline windows are ENERGY STAR® rated for all three climate zones in Canada. They provide you with energy costs savings and keep your home comfortable year round.

This ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient designation recognizes the most efficient products among those that qualify for ENERGY STAR®. These exceptional products represent the leading edge in energy efficient products this year. A Most Efficient product is the best in its class of ENERGY STAR® qualified products in terms of efficiency, and often has other special features as well.

Choosing ENERGY STAR® qualified products that have a Most Efficient designation will help consumers reduce their energy bills, motivate manufacturers to innovate, and help the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

NAFS

The North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS) is a harmonized standard for assessing a window’s performance. As of Feb 1, 2015 all windows manufactured in Canada must be labeled in accordance with NAFS requirements. Any window or door that is compliant will have a label on it stating that the product design has been tested to NAFS-08. These labels indicate four performance requirements:

– Performance Grade (PG)
– Design pressure (DP)
– Water penetration resistance test pressure (water pressure)
– Air infiltration/ex filtration

Energy Efficiency

Double and Triple Pane

Glass panes are the main elements of any window, therefore it is most important for them to be of the highest quality. Harsh prairie climates usually require a minimum of 2 panes for adequate thermo-insulation. We, at Ecoline Windows, go as far as making 3-pane units, especially beneficial for areas with prolonged winter where temperatures remain lower for longer.

In addition, windows get a large part of their energy efficiency from low-emissive (LoE) coatings on interior panes of glass. Gases like Argon and Krypton are injected into the sealed glass unit to further lower the amount of heat transferred through the window.

Triple pane windows feature an additional pane that is located between the two exterior panes. This means you get the additional benefit of an extra layer of Argon or Krypton Gas between the panes, which leads to better insulation. Triple pane windows are also set in sturdier, higher quality frames and are equipped with stronger hardware, making them more durable and better performing when compared to double-pane units.

Energy Star ® Climate Zones

For ENERGY STAR®, there are three climate zones in Canada (1, 2, 3), based on an average annual temperature indicator called a Heating Degree Day (HDD). Zone 1 is the mildest and Zone 3 is the coldest. Colder areas require windows that are more energy efficient.

What is LoE Coated Glass?

Approximately 75% of the window area is glass. Although windows provide beautiful views and wonderful natural light, they can also be responsible for the majority of the annual heating costs for a home, through heat loss. It is important that new windows effectively retain heat inside, while keeping extreme hot and cold weather outside.

Think of LoE coating as invisible insulation that helps to provide a shield:

  • In the winter, LoE coated glass helps keep your home warm and cozy by blocking heat loss through windows while allowing the sun’s heat inside.
  • In the warmer weather, LoE coating blocks the sun’s harmful UV rays, protecting the interior of your home and keeping your furniture from fading. At the same time allowing in more visible sunlight.

LoE coated glass is simply the best way to help minimize energy costs and maintain comfortable temperatures inside your home all year round.

Warmer in the winter

Warmer in the winter:

LoE glass retains more interior heat than ordinary glass, helping to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Cooler in the summer

Cooler in the summer:

LoE glass filters out harmful UV rays and reduces solar heat gain.

Argon and Krypton Gas

Triple pane technology is designed to reduce the window’s heat conductivity and stop the cold from getting inside the house. To achieve this, Argon or Krypton Gases are utilized to fill the space between the panes. Both gases conduct up to 50% less heat than air, and when coupled with triple pane construction you get added protection against heat loss, condensation and cold weather. Less heat loss translates directly into more energy cost savings for you.

White “S-Class” Super Spacer®

Inside high-quality windows you will find a spacer between the layers of glass. This spacer is usually constructed of steel or metal. Its purpose is to separate, seal and insulate the layers of glass, helping to keep your home warmer.

Ecoline Windows uses an improved spacer. Our white “S-Class” Super Spacer is constructed with flexible, 100% polymer foam instead of metal. Foam spacers can expand and contract, reducing cold transfer through the spacer, which helps to reduce the formation of condensation.

When it comes to durability, the white “S-Class” Super Spacer outperforms other spacers in the industry’s toughest tests with a simulated 90-year lifespan.

Simply Clean

The Simply Clean® Difference is Easy to See

It’s not magic but close to it. A variety of different technologies go into manufacturing Simply Clean® glass. But the key technology – the one that helps windows stay cleaner longer – is the applied super-thin coating.

Find out how SimplyClean technology helps keep your new windows clean

When you add Simply Clean® coating to your windows, the sun will help to keep your windows clean. As the sun’s rays contact the window, the Simply Clean coating is activated, helping break down accumulated dust and dirt. The rain then washes away the residue left behind, so you won’t have to clean the windows as often.

A High Quality Window

100% Lead-Free Multi-Chamber Frame

Made from 100% lead-free virgin vinyl, Ecoline’s multi-chamber frame technology redirects moisture away from the surface of the glass, decreasing the occurrence of condensation, the development of fungi and helps reduce outside noise.

Fusion Mitered Welded Sash and Frame

Each sash and frame is precision-mitered and fusion welded using extreme heat and pressure. This ensures an inseparable bond at every joint for sturdier frames and longer lasting windows.

Insect Guard Fly Maze

Ecoline installs a sponge-like insect guard inside our ulti-chamber frames. This prevents insects from entering through window cavities and forming nests inside.

Re-enforcement Bar for Combination Window

Ecoline Windows utilizes steel re-enforcement bars for combination oversized windows to achieve better performance on air tightness, water penetration and wind driven rain conditions.

ETI Foam

ETI® stands for Engineered Thermal Insulation, which improves the thermal efficiency of large cavities found in vinyl windows. Foam is inserted into the larger air spaces of the vinyl windows to reduce the amount of heat and cold transfer through the window cavities which benefits the overall window. ETI foam is superior to expandable foam because it delivers better energy performance, lasts longer, remains more stable at higher and lower temperatures and is environmentally friendly.

Brickmoulds

Brickmolds are an important part of window replacement. A brickmould is a strip of vinyl that is used to close the small gap between the wall and the frame of the opening, providing a seal against both water and air infiltration. Vinyl brickmoulds are lightweight, durable and easy to work with. They create a traditional look, and do not need to be painted. They come in a variety of colours to easily match the colour scheme of your home.
