Custom Window Combination with Colonial Grilles

We replaced the old three-section window with a new custom combination, keeping the original wide opening. The new setup features a large picture window in the middle and operable side casements for optimal ventilation. Colonial-style grilles were added to keep a traditional look and match the home’s black shutters. A great upgrade to save energy, boost the home’s exterior and improve comfort.

      40-Year-Old Wood Windows Replacement

The homeowners replaced their 40-year-old wood windows with a new vinyl system that is more efficient and easier to maintain. The new setup has three sections: a big fixed window in the middle and single-hung windows on each side. This design keeps the main glass area open for light and views, while the side units can be opened for fresh air. White vinyl frames require less upkeep than painted wood and give the windows a neater look, while triple-pane glass saves energy and improves thermal performance.

Combination Windows Installation: Picture Over Slider

For this project, we replaced an old wood window with a custom combination that has a large fixed picture window on top and a modern slider below. The top section lets in plenty of light and keeps the view open, while the bottom slider offers easy ventilation without sticking out. We used triple-pane glass for better energy efficiency and comfort. To keep the home’s original charm, we restored the trim in a warm cream colour that matches the grey siding and gives the whole area a fresh, clean look.

      Full-Frame vs. Retrofit Window Replacement

At Ecoline, we provide both full-frame and retrofit window replacement. The best option depends on the condition of your current windows.

If you have an older home or want a full window upgrade, we usually suggest full-frame replacement. This lets our installers check the entire opening for hidden moisture, damaged insulation, air leaks, and other issues before installing your new window.

      Compare Full-Frame and
      Retrofit Installation

      Full-Frame Replacement Retrofit Replacement
What we remove Window, existing frame and interior/exterior trim as required Existing window unit while the original frame remains
Best for Older or damaged frames, major efficiency upgrades and openings with possible hidden issues Existing frames that are structurally sound and in good condition
Access to the opening Full access to inspect insulation, sealing and surrounding conditions Limited because the original frame stays in place
New window size Makes better use of the original rough opening New unit fits inside the existing frame, which can slightly reduce glass area
Installation scope More extensive installation and finishing Faster and less invasive
Typical cost 15% higher because more material and labour are involved Usually lower when the existing frame can safely be reused
Our recommendation Preferred when we need to address the complete window opening A practical option when the existing frame does not need replacement

      Window Replacement FAQ

How do I know if I need replacement windows?

You might need new windows if you notice drafts, condensation between the panes, damaged frames, windows that are hard to open or close, higher energy bills, or if your home feels less comfortable due to heat loss.

What types of replacement windows does Ecoline offer?

Ecoline has a variety of replacement window styles, such as casement, awning, slider, picture, bay, bow, egress, and custom options.

      Are replacement windows energy efficient?

Modern triple-pane replacement windows are up to 55% more energy efficient compared to old home. They use insulated frames, multi-pane glass, Low-E coatings, gas fills, and are installed properly to keep your home comfortable.

How much does window replacement cost?

The cost of replacing windows depends on things like the size and style of the window, the type of glass, how the windows are installed, the condition of your frames, how many windows you need, and where your home is located.

Is full-frame or retrofit window replacement better?

Full-frame replacement is usually best if your current frames are damaged or if you want a full upgrade. Retrofit replacement works well when your existing frames are still in good shape.
