Before you commit to any work being done at your house, there are a few things that are important to keep in mind:
1. Window replacement is something that should be done once and not again for at least 25 years.
Regardless if you get vinyl, wood, or aluminum windows, if your energy efficient windows are installed correctly they should keep your home draft and leak free for at least a quarter century. 2. Getting the right window company is not about how many quotes you get, but getting to know as much as you can about the product.

3. No matter how expensive or efficient your window is, it is worth nothing if not installed properly.
Remember, correct installation of vinyl windows depends 100% on the window and all of its components being measured properly. Though it is not a mandatory qualification, a lot of companies in Canada work and train their installers through the Window Wise program to ensure all installations are done in accordance to CSA standards. 4. Standard delivery time for custom windows is six to eight weeks.
To meet a deadline, window manufacturers have to make sure that certain processes are done on time. A final measurement appointment should be set up within a week of the contract signing date. Within 3 or 4 weeks, you should be notified that your order is in production. Finally, around the 6 to 8-week mark you should get a call to schedule an installation appointment.The production of vinyl windows usually takes 1 to 2 weeks depending on the number of windows. Specific modifications and additions can extend production to 3 or 4 weeks. Among window styles, shaped windows require the most time to manufacture. The option to have the exterior of the windows in colour rather than white will also prolong production. Finally, if you have entry doors on your order you will also be looking at a longer than usual delivery time.
5. Beware of false warranty promises.
Most window manufacturers in Canada offer a lifetime warranty (25 years). The manufacturer will usually provide a warranty on the glass, panes, and hardware. The installers provide a warranty on labour and workmanship. With a supply and install contract, only one company is responsible for your window order making it is easier to avoid unpleasant finger-pointing and discussion about who is responsible for the warranty.
